Q102: What are the harmful effects of solvent abuse?

Solvent abuse, also known as volatile substance abuse, is not only glue sniffing but is also the sniffing of substances that contain butane or propane gas, for example, aerosols, gas refills and paint thinners.

It has many harmful effects ranging from short-term effects such as hallucinations, blackouts, sickness and dizziness to the long-term effects of damage to brain, heart, liver and kidneys and death. Some solvents can cause the lungs to freeze, thus causing suffocation.
