Q936: What arrangements will be made for the surrender of air weapons?

At this stage that there will be a national air weapon surrender campaign to allow people to surrender unwanted weapons. Proposed dates are 23 May – 12 June 2016.

This will be co-ordinated and managed by Police Scotland with further information around locations for surrender, timescales and local arrangements being communicated nearer the commencement of the surrender campaign.

There will also be a publicity campaign to inform people about how to obtain a certificate. We can also say that there will be a fee for the certificate and that the certification process will open on 1 July 2016. Further information will be added to the Police Scotland website when available and there is also a section on the Scottish Government website containing further information about the new legislation. The website address is www.gov.scot/airguns
